Tom Mungall - Director

Described as “outstanding” by the Continuo Foundation, Tom enjoys a varied career working on groundbreaking classical, jazz and folk music media.
His films are frequently shared and broadcast by Classic FM & Gramophone Magazine, and his sound recording work can be found on the Hyperion, Decca and CORO record labels. Tom enjoys regular collaborations with VOCES8 Studios, the Royal College of Music and Global, among others.

Tom has been directing concert films and music videos under the name Tom Mungall Audio since 2018.

As a classically trained cellist, pianist and singer, Tom received scholarships in composition and performance between 2014-2020, when he graduated from the Tonmeister course at Surrey University with first-class honours and the “Tonmeister of the Year” award. In 2020, Tom was fortunate to be a mix engineer on O/Modernt’s album 'From the Ground Up', which was recognised with a Gramophone Award. Since then, he’s had the privilege of developing films and releases with outstanding musicians including The King’s Singers, the Academy of Ancient Music and the London Haydn Quartet.
Tom is dichotomously passionate about historical performance and mixed-genre programmes, specialising in choral, chamber and early orchestral recording. He is most at home when working with creative music making that challenges the listener, and explores unique themes.

    Recent films include:

  • Allery’s Sounds of the Square Mile
  • exploring the rich history and musical heritage of the City of London

  • Nafis Umerkulova’s Robert and Clara Schumann
  • a programme exploring the relationship between the two composers, and

  • Ensemble Hesperi’s Celestial Music did the Gods Inspire
  • an intense battle between two organ builders.

Tom is also looking forward to the release of the debut albums for the Echo Vocal Ensemble and the Jervaulx Singers.
